June 20th, 2009UncategorizedWhile patches have removed many of the strange rubber-handing issues and glitches in Warhammer Online, it doesn't stop people from sending in silly images they've seen on their travels from times gone by! Take today's enormously large-handed Orc with his floating club; he looks like he could fly away with those big mitts. This silly image comes to us courtesy of Warhammer Online player Galnar from the Phoenix Throne server who writes in: If evolution applies to fungi, the Dwarves may soon have to deal with winged Orcs with the powers of telekinesis. Surprisingly, the large hands (and their attack speed) are not affected by wind resistance.

Ultimate Rivalry Between Divergent Forces to be Decided...With Balls
SouthPeak Games announced today that Pirates v Ninjas Dodgeball for Wii has gone gold.
“Finally, friends will be able to choose their sides in this age old rivalry and face off to decide who is truly the superior force,” said Richard Iggo, VP of Marketing for SouthPeak Games. “I’m confident everyone that plays will realize that pirates rule the world. Anyone who says otherwise gets a ball in the face.”
Up to four friends can compete against one another as either pirates, ninjas, or as members of other iconic teams such as robots and zombies, each with their own unique techniques and abilities. Every match in Pirates v Ninjas Dodgeball is completely customizable, allowing competitors to decide on everything from the arena you play in to game rules. In addition, Pirates v Ninjas Dodgeball features a deep, single player story mode, and challenge modes to keep players in top ball slinging shape.
“Pirates v Ninjas Dodgeball plays great thanks to the Wii controls, and intensifies rivalries because the throwing motions make it feel like you’re whipping balls at each other. I’m surprised such a classic playground game hasn’t been done on Nintendo Wii before,” said Chris Stockman, Studio Director of Blazing Lizard. “I’m also surprised anyone would choose pirates over the mystical power of ninjas. Fools such as these are easily defeated.”

One of the greatest strengths of EVE Online is its lore, which chronicles generations of struggle between New Eden's races and their continual political and ideological upheavals. Not everyone will agree with that opinion, of course, just as not all players seek out immersion in New Eden. For those who do, EVE has been building up short stories to flesh out the lore over the past six years -- all nicely collected on their site -- gritty tales of New Eden's technological heights and moral depths. It's already led to a novel titled Empyrean Age authored by Tony Gonzales, which will hopefully lead to a follow-up work.
Given all the attention CCP Games has given to adding these dimensions and layers to the game's backstory, the truth is that EVE is as much a virtual setting as it is a game; as such, there's always a need to expand and refine that setting. A solid backstory is important but it's equally important to EVE's players to be able to interact with it, feel like they're really a part of New Eden in some way. Live events and storyline missions (quests) have been used in the past to this end. However, in the case of missions, a player's role in New Eden's story hasn't quite matched up with what many feel it could be. CCP's efforts to make EVE Online's storylines more engaging is the focus of their latest dev blog, titled "Telling Stories: Evolution of the Atlanta Content Team". -
June 17th, 2009UncategorizedWhenever I have a game that presents me with a good or bad character choice, I always go with the good. I actually never play the evil part…it just doesn’t appeal to me.
When presented with a game that only gives you the choice of the anti-hero, I reluctantly take the roll. Sometimes I end up happier for having given the game a chance. There’s definitely some interesting plot mechanics that can take place with a character like this, but I don’t think any developer has really opened it up and exploited the idea for all it’s worth.

June 14th, 2009UncategorizedPlayStation 3 has certainly kicked it up to high gear in the graphics department this year. First party titles have torn the eyes out of gamer’s sockets and fed them back in high definition glory.
Just as soon Sony’s Killzone 2 had begun to set a new high water benchmark for console graphics, the gurus over at the Official PlayStation Magazine announced that Sony’s killer exclusive; God of War III, will be technically “leaps and bounds beyond anything the PS3 has seen to date.”
If that wasn’t enough to tent the dungarees of Sony Fanboys across the world, we can add this juicy statement to a long line of exclamations extolling the virtues of Kratos’ third and final entry into the award-winning series.
Sony Computer Entertainment has previously announced that God of War 3 will use a custom game engine that delivers four times the texture resolution of its predecessor. Industry veteran David Jaffe put his huge walrus balls on the line, exclaiming that God of War III looks 25%-30% better than the HD trailer, stating: “It happened to blow me away and remains the best looking console game I’ve ever seen.”
God of War III, unlike Killzone 2, has a much better lineage than Sony’s FPS. Sony however, delivered in spades and gave PS3 owners a title that not only lived up to the hype that surrounded it, but surpassed it. With a 120-page script, God of War III will run at full 1080p HD resolution, and the game will support Sixaxis tilt and vibration functions. It seems when it comes to graphics front in the console war, the PS3’s vengeance is everything.
